9 IN THE LAND OF BIG RING LEGENDS

The picture above features Hall of Famers Franco Harris #32 and Alan Page #88 in action during Super Bowl 9 ( IX ). This was a classic game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings; played January 12th, 1975, completing the 1974 season.

Super Bowl 9 was the first Super Bowl win for the legendary Steelers and there were many men from both teams who would go into the professional football Hall Of Fame, including both coaches; Chuck Noll, Bud Grant, and both quarterbacks; Terry Bradshaw and Fran Tarkington.

The New England Patriots played football in 1974 and ironically played both of these great teams beating Minnesota and losing to Pittsburgh. The NFL football season was 14 games in those days, the Patriots finished the season with a record of 7 wins and 7 loses, coached by Chuck Fairbanks.

Chuck Fairbanks was a good coach hired by New England in 1973; staying until 1978, turning around the Patriot franchise by producing good teams, which got rid of the prevailing feelings of going nowhere. I remember being excited about the team, since Chuck Fairbanks was a very successful college coach at the University of Oklahoma. Chuck Fairbanks and the Patriots drafted a nucleus of good players during his time. The team already included the 1971 number 1 draft pick from Stanford University, Heisman trophy winning quarterback number #16 Jim Plunkett, and future Hall Of Fame inductee offensive lineman #73 John Hannah drafted #4 in 1973.

The Boston Patriots were an original AFL team formed in 1960 becoming the New England Patriots after the AFL / NFL merger in 1970, taking on the New England team name in 1971. I invite you to take a trip down memory lane and study the history of the New England Patriots  , click the link for a look back. The Patriots would first make it to the NFL playoffs in 1976, the first Super Bowl appearance in 1986 and again in 1996, only to lose those games.

The Patriots of old would not believe the Patriots of the new millennium, which have achieved Legendary status. History is to be looked back on, it is rare to make history as you go about your days but that is what we are witnessing, since the year 2000 (to present) hiring of coach Bill Belichick. Coach, quarterback and team are record making, while breaking records, now for each additional win breaks their own record. (Jerry Rice Style, when every next catch, broke his own record)

The coach and quarterback; Bill Belichick / Tom Brady , headline a living history of making records for wins in their 16 year working relationship, which also contains great players and coaches who; over the coming years, will themselves be inducted into the NFL Hall Of Fame.

9 IN THE LAND OF BIG RING LEGENDS refers to the NFL record for Super Bowl appearances by the New England Patriots, 1986, 1996, 2001, 2003,2004, 2007, 2011, 2014, and this year 2016/2017. No other team franchise has over 8 total appearances in the Super Bowl,

The Pittsburgh Steelers have won the Super Bowl 6 times, The Dallas Cowboys, and San Francisco 49'ers have won the Super Bowl 5 times, The Patriots (now 5), the New York Giants, the Green Bay Packers, and the Denver Broncos have won 4 times. The Raiders, Redskins have won 3 times, The Colts/Ravens twice apiece and the Dolphins twice, including a perfect undefeated season.
Super Bowl 51

There are several teams with 1 win in the Super Bowl and even teams that have made the Super Bowl several times without winning the Big Game. The walking living history takes place as player and coach and franchise enters Super Bowl 51, which for Brady and Belichick will be a record 7th time together (plus other Super Bowl records for both men) and for the New England Patriots franchise it is...

  1. 2016/2017 Super Bowl 51 (LI) was a great football game, which saw the New England Patriots defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime after overcoming a 25 point deficit. 25 points is the largest comeback and the overtime was the 1rst one. This is the 5th Championship for the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady. The most important win factor for Brady and all believers in the Holy Trinity of GOD is the faith inducing improbable win came after dedicating the game to his Cancer stricken Mother who was able to attend.I am sure the improbable winning outcome among incredible plays and sense-less faith to keep trying keep fighting keep moving through the valley of Doubt has met a new found faithful believer in Brady. GOD will not be mocked and to GOD goes the glory of this story, believer or not, but anyone who has dealt with the Big C knows it is nothing but GOD, to save you and bring you out from way behind, to win...
